Treeforts - Matt Updegraff has returned to Treeforts. Treeforts will be recording a seven-song EP in the near future. Wesley Hunt recorded a video of himself playing acoustically.

Lights Resolve

Pity Rally - Pity Rally recorded a new EP and it’s available for streaming or download for $3 on bandcamp. Pity Rally will also be playing at St. Stephen and the Incarnation Episcopal Church on October 27th and will be opening for Heavy Breathing and Deathfix.

Metacomet’s Vision

Treble Lifter - Treble Lifter is recording their next EP.

Stereosleep - Stereosleep will be playing at St. Vitu’s in Brooklyn on November 1st.

Muted Songbirds - Muted Songbirds will be playing at Casa Fiesta on October 13th.

The Sea Life - The Sea Life has a concert on October 13th to release their new album at the Black Cat.

Atlas At Last - Atlas At Last will be playing as AFI at a Halloween Cover Show in Baltimore, Maryland. Atlas At Last is also recording for their upcoming album.

Technicians - Technicians is recording their new album.

Drop Electric - Drop Electric will be representing DC at The Deli Magazine CMJ Music Marathon showcase at the Delancey on October 18th. On October 19th, Drop Electric will be playing at Comet Ping Pong with Thieves Like Us and Coup Sauvage & The Snips.

10.06.12: Drop Electric, The Silver Liners, & The Sea Life

Since 2010, many members of the McLean community (and members of Indie Bands with a Mission included) participate in Stop Hunger Now food care packaging events hosted in McLean, Virginia. The ultimate goal for the McLean community is to make 1,000,000 meals. To make this goal easier to accomplish, the community is going to do it in multiple events. In November 2012, Stop Hunger Now McLean wants to make 250,000 meal bags in one day, which will feed 1.5 million people. Indie Bands with a Mission wants to do our part to help raise the money by hosting a benefit concert.

On October 6th at St. Stephen’s, Drop Electric, The Silver Liners, and The Sea Life are all joining together for the first of two shows to help raise money for Indie Bands with a Mission and Stop Hunger Now!

Tickets are $5! A donation of at least $5 to the IndieGoGo campaign will give a person a presale ticket to one of the shows and a ticket at the door will be the same amount.

*Cash and major credit cards (visa, master card, discover, and american express) will be accepted at the door!

Help Indie Bands with a Mission Fund Benefit Shows!:

Late last night around midnight, we launched our IndieGoGo campaign to help fund our next two shows. We’re running short on payments for the next two shows we’re hoping to plan after donating most of what we had to programs to help the homeless and hungry.

While all of our shows are special to us, the next two shows hits close to home. Our hometown of McLean, Virginia is hoping to make 250,000 meal bags this November for Stop Hunger Now. These 250,000 meal bags would make 1.5 million meals for people worldwide, but in order to make this happen our hometown needs $62,500. We’re trying to plan two benefit shows to help make this happen.

One of them will be on October 6th at St. Stephen and the Incarnation Episcopal Church in Washington, DC. The second show is still being planned, but we’ll be releasing more details as they come in.

We need $730 to pay for the venues and for someone to run the PA system. Then, we’re all for being fair, so each of the touring bands from the second show would be paid $500. (Bands at the first show will get a cut at the door rather than payment upfront, unless we raise enough money to be able to pay them upfront.) We’re expecting bands from Chicago, New York City, and North Carolina to come to the Washington, D.C. area for the show, so they need to pay for gas and food. If we book a band within 50 miles of DC, they’ll only get $50 for gas and food and the leftover money would go towards Stop Hunger Now. Then, we need $75 so there will be food and drinks at the show for sale to help earn some extra money for Indie Bands with a Mission. The extra $195 in our funding goal is to help pay for the fees from both IndieGoGo and PayPal.

What happens if we raise more than the $3,000? Each touring band will be paid $500. The venue will be paid $730 for the shows and we’ll buy $75 worth of drinks and food for the concert attendees. We’ll also pay the fees. Then, 100% of the ticket proceeds will go towards the event. (If the McLean community raises their $62,500 goal, then we’ll be giving those proceeds to the international organization Stop Hunger Now.) Then, 100% of the profits from the food and drink sales at the show go to Indie Bands with a Mission. The proceeds from this campaign will be evenly split between Stop Hunger Now and Indie Bands with a Mission. (We’ll be using these profits to help file for 501(c)(3) status, put on more events, and publish our upcoming cookbook.)

If you can, please donate! Even a dollar helps us get closer to paying everyone. We understand that not everyone can contribute money, so please share this fundraiser with your family and friends and see if they can donate something. If you’re in the DC area, come out and help us distribute flyers about the show and Stop Hunger Now event.

We raised over $130 each for Thrive DC and Alternative House! We had a great time at the show and we’re thankful for everyone who was able to come out and support the cause!

We’re planning for more benefit shows in the future, along with volunteer events.

In twelve days, Indie Bands with a Mission will be hosting a music festival on August 18, 2012 to benefit Thrive DC and Alternative House at St. Stephen and the Incarnation Episcopal Church in Northwest D.C. The concert festival features eight musical groups from the Washington metropolitan area, Baltimore, and Portland.

At 4:30 p.m. in St. Stephen’s auditorium, Amenta Abioto from Portland, Oregon will kick off the show with soul and magic. Then, Washington, D.C. area rock bands Treble Lifter, Manta Ray, Stereosleep, and Brenda will follow. Baltimore indie rockers Muted Songbirds and Treeforts, who have played a benefit show for Indie Bands with a Mission in the past, will take the stage next. Last but not least, the DC area indie dreampop band The Sea Life will close out the show.

Presale tickets are only $7 each. Tickets at the door are $10 each. Indie Bands with a Mission will be accepting cash and major credit cards at the door. Thrive DC, Alternative House, and the eight musical groups will receive the profits collected from ticket sales.

Indie Bands with a Mission will also have $1 drinks (Water Bottles, Coca Cola, Pepsi, Sunkist, Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew, etc) and baked goods for sale! Also, Indie Bands with a Mission will have a limited supply of the fork guitar t-shirts on sale at the show!

New Limited Edition Presale Shirt, Street Team Meetings, and Upcoming Concerts!

It’s been awhile since we’ve updated everyone or had an event. Here’s what we’ve been up to:

We’re doing a very limited run of this shirt with the fork guitar logo! If the shirt is popular, we may print more, but don’t count on it. It’s up on the online store for $10 presale right now.
Also, we’re going to host street team meetings in July to gear up for August 18th! Keep July 14th and July 27th available. We’re going to try to do two street team meetings then. Location TBA! (If you know of a place to host it/want to provide snacks for street teamers, email us at indiebandswithamission@gmail.com!)
What’s on August 18th? If you haven’t been checking Facebook or Twitter, August 18th is the date for our third anniversary, end-of-summer benefit show! We’ll do an official announcement of who’s playing in mid-July, but we have been releasing some artist announcements on Facebook. The show will be at St. Stephen’s (1525 Newton Street NW) with music starting at 4 p.m. We’ll see you there!
Also, we’re partnering with the Foggy Bottom Music Festival! Their show is going to be on August 25th at University Yard at GWU! Tickets are $10 ahead of time, get them quick! We’ll be sending out IBWAM members at this show to talk about IBWAM!

Hello, everyone!

I can’t believe three years has passed since Maria and I developed the idea for Indie Bands with a Mission! The time has gone by so fast, but so slowly. We’ve had our rough patches and we’ve had some great high points, especially in 2012. I just want to take sometime to thank everyone for your support.

The shows wouldn’t have had any luck if it wasn’t for the help of co-founder Maria and the other directors: Niab, Michelle, Rachael and Ana. I personally wouldn’t be able to run Indie Bands with a Mission without you and your guidance. (Have a happy birthday, Niab! Lucky you to share your birthday with IBWAM!)

Throughout the years, we’ve worked with countless musicians and nothing will express the amount of gratitude we have for them. This year in particular, we’ve had the pleasure to have on stage The Root Stompers, Brace Yourself, Treeforts, Lights Resolve, Pity Rally, Metacomet’s Vision, and Foozle. Even if we haven’t gotten the chance to have more musicians on our line ups yet, we’re excited for the opportunities to do so in the future.

From the shows to the volunteer events, we couldn’t have done any of this without the help of the fans as well. You are what makes IBWAM complete.

While we’re not celebrating this month, stay tuned. We’ve got big plans for the future in works! (HINT: Keep your calendars cleared for August 18th.)

Less Than Twelve Hours Until Doors Open!

Due to an accident, Playground Etiquette will not be gracing the stage for us tonight. Instead, Treeforts from Baltimore, Maryland will be taking their place! It’s their first show, so everyone should come out and support the new music!

There’s less than twelve hours until music begins!

Treeforts will be kicking off the show; Brace Yourself will follow. To round out the main show, Lights Resolve takes the stage to show us here in DC how Long Islanders rock out.

The after party starts at 12 a.m. tonight. If you’re at the show before 12 a.m., you’re automatically invited to stay for the after party. (As long as you paid the $5 at the main show, there’s no charge for the after party!)

We’ll see you at Casa Fiesta (4910 Wisconsin Ave NW) tonight!

Pity Rally added to the April 21st Show!

Yesterday, we announced on Facebook and Twitter that Pity Rally will be joining us for a set on April 21st at the after party! The after party for April 21st is free for anyone who attended the main show and starts at 12 midnight! (Technically, it would be April 22nd.)

The official set times for the show will be announced on April 20th.

Also, we’re still looking for the following equipment for our show!

We’re having another show on April 21st at Casa Fiesta in Tenleytown. It’s our second small-space show of the year. We’ll be featuring Lights Resolve, Playground Etiquette, and Brace Yourself at the main show. Then, we’re having an after party with a band, who we will be announcing on April 11th. (We’ve placed a ton of hints on our Facebook page.)

With all of the excitement aside, we’re in desperate need of equipment for our show. Casa Fiesta is currently lacking the equipment – they’re having their own benefit show to get equipment - and not all of our bands can bring these things out. We’re very nervous.

We’re currently in desperate need of the following items:

PA system
Monitors
FOH Speakers
4 Microphones
4 Boom Microphones

We’re willing to rent and/or buy equipment at this point. (However, the cheaper the equipment is, the better since we really want to raise more money for the community than we spend.) We need the equipment from 8:00 p.m. on April 21st to about 1:30 a.m. on April 22nd. We can definitely pick up the equipment and bring it back to the owner (if the equipment is in Northern Virginia, Washington, DC, or Maryland).
